A Day of Living the Course

Your gift to the world and to yourself

What does a day of living the Course look like?

Summary of the Components of Practice

  • Morning Quiet Time: After reading the lesson and its commentary, you do your first practice period. Here, you establish the goal for the day, which is the learning (i.e., realization) of the day’s idea, and you establish a heightened, peaceful state of mind that you will renew and protect throughout the rest of the day.

  • Hourly Remembrance: Ideally, we take two or more minutes to practice today’s idea on the hour, although Jesus realizes that we will not always be able to do this.

  • Frequent Reminders: “Merely repeat the idea [for the day]…as often as possible” (W-48.2:2), with focus and feeling, with eyes closed when you can and open when you have to.

  • Response to Temptation: Dispelling upsets by repeating the idea for the day or some variation thereof.

  • Asking for Guidance: What to ask: mainly how to play our part in God’s plan. “Let Him tell you what needs to be done by you in His plan for your salvation” (Lesson 71).

Willingness questionnaire

Please do not feel any pressure during or after completing this questionnaire. This questionnaire is for me to understand your current levels of willingness toward various components of the practice. If you have a willingness of 5 out of 10, it helps me to know this so I don’t push you to perform at 10. My aim is to gently build you to 6 while at the same time making sure you do not fall below 4.

  • You decide which components of the practice to work on, not I.

  • I will not teach or advise, but asks questions and listen.

  • I will encourage action. You will develop your own action steps, not my assignments.

  • I will follow-up to support your learning, growth and change.

How comfortable are you with each component of practice?
